Survivor Assistance

The Northeast Indiana Burn Council provides a variety of assistance to Burn Survivors, as listed below:

  • Assistance Fund: we provide financial and other help to families of patients in the Burn Unit at St. Joseph Hospital. We do not pay for hospital stays; instead, we may help the family by paying for a stay at the Carole Lombard Bed & Breakfast instead of sleeping in the Burn Unit lobby; we may provide gas cards for families that must travel back and forth from home to hospital; or we may provide food cards for the family to eat outside the hospital. We customize what we do for each family that needs our help.
  • Supplies for Those in Need: we will purchase needed supplies for the Outpatient Clinic for Burn Survivors that are in need of specific bandages, wraps and other garments. We also work with the Physical Therapy department to help with customized burn garments.

  • Burn Survivor Alliance: we partner with the Regional Burn Center at St. Joseph Hospital to help Burn Survivors and their familes via monthly meetings, periodic outings and the new Survivor Alliance Chat Room. Contact us for more information.

  • World Burn Congress Scholarships: we will help pay for a portion of a Burn Survivor's trip to the annual World Burn Congress, the yearly convention for Burn Survivors hosted by the Phoenix Society. Jump to the WBC link now.

  • SOAR Program: we partner with the Burn Unit at St. Joseph Hospital to initiate and train SOAR volunteers. Please contact us with any questions.

  • Pagers: we purchased a set of pagers for use by families of patients in the Burn Unit at St. Joseph Hospital.
